CALL SUMMARY
The Crazy Horse School (Tasunke Witko Owayawa) invites the current or prior Crazy Horse School students and Eagle Nest District members to develop an original piece of artwork to be digitally made and featured on two new school charter buses.
The deadline for submissions is Friday July 25, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.
WHAT DO HAVE TO CREATE?
Artists should design a bus wrap (i.e., artwork to be displayed on vehicle-sides, front & back.) Artwork can also have a slogan included that represents the school. Think as if your artwork is a billboard advertisement representing who we are as Indigenous people.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT ART?
This call is for any current or prior Crazy Horse School student or individuals who live in the Eagle Nest District. Graphic designing experience or knowledge is not required to participate. The Artwork will be digitally converted to the wrap.
WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
The deadline for submissions is Friday, July 25, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. All submissions MUST be submitted with the completed Art Entry Form for each person entering the art contest. Participants can enter more than one design but each design must be submitted separately.
HOW DO SUBMIT ARTWORK?
Artwork can be emailed to Dr. Margo Heinert with the subject line: "Crazy Horse School Art for Bus Wrap" or mailed to:
PO Box 260,
Wanblee, SD 57577.
If you do not get an email confirmation message within one business day, please contact Dr. Heinert at 605-462-6792. You may also drop the entry off at the school, at the front office, with the artwork you are entering. For assistance or any questions, contact Dr. Heinert or Ms. Leslie Cuny, Business Manager at 605-462-6792.

HOW WILL ARTWORK BE  EVALUATED?
A review committee will consist of 5 persons from the selected Eagle Nest-Crazy Horse School community will review and evaluate all entries received by the deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS

When evaluating the entries, the committee will consider the following criteria for artwork entered:

  • Does the art tell the history and or story of the school?
  • Does the art promote the theme for the school?
  • Is the art eye-catching?
    • Please note: Art with large drawings or graphics will look better than art with small elements that are bunched together. Colors that are bright and bold are more eye-catching than soft colors such as pastels or lighter colors.
  • Is the art easy to understand by the picture and or slogan when people see it parked or on the road?
  • If included, is the slogan a short and memorable saying, and is the text of it legible?
    • Keep the text fairly large. Remember people will be trying to read what the slogan (Logo) is on the bus as it is going down the road. Think of it as your moving billboard.
WHAT IS THE COMPENSATION?
The '1st place winner will receive $2000; 2nd-place winner $300, and the 3rdplace winner $200.
